Plagiarism Policy
Jurnal Pranata Hukum is committed to maintaining academic integrity and ensuring the originality of all manuscripts submitted for publication. Authors are required to submit original scholarly work, acknowledge the contributions of other researchers, and properly cite all sources used in their manuscripts. Plagiarism and other forms of publication misconduct are not acceptable.
Definition of Plagiarism
Plagiarism is the use of another person's ideas, words, arguments, data, or scholarly work without appropriate acknowledgment. It may occur in written text, research findings, legal analysis, images, tables, or other materials. Authors must ensure that all sources are properly cited and that quotations and paraphrased materials are clearly distinguished from their own contributions.
Forms of Plagiarism
Plagiarism and related forms of academic misconduct may include:
- Direct Plagiarism: Copying text or material from another source without quotation marks or proper citation.
- Paraphrasing Plagiarism: Rewriting another author's ideas or arguments without acknowledging the source.
- Self-Plagiarism: Reusing substantial portions of one's previously published work without proper disclosure or acknowledgment.
- Source Misrepresentation: Failing to provide accurate references or presenting another person's work as one's own.
- Duplicate Publication: Submitting or publishing substantially the same manuscript in more than one publication without appropriate disclosure.
Plagiarism Screening
Submitted manuscripts may be screened using plagiarism detection software or other appropriate methods to identify textual similarity with existing publications and online sources. The editorial team evaluates the screening results in context, considering the nature of the similarities, the adequacy of citations, and the originality of the manuscript. A similarity score alone does not automatically establish plagiarism.
Similarity Assessment
The editorial team assesses similarity reports on a case-by-case basis. Particular attention is given to unattributed copying, inappropriate paraphrasing, duplicated content, and the reuse of previously published material. Any similarity threshold adopted by the journal should be applied in accordance with its official editorial guidelines and should not replace editorial judgment.
Actions in Cases of Plagiarism
If plagiarism or other publication misconduct is suspected or identified, the editorial team may take appropriate action depending on the seriousness of the case. Such actions may include:
- Requesting clarification or corrections from the author.
- Returning the manuscript for revision when appropriate.
- Rejecting a manuscript when serious misconduct is established.
- Retracting a published article when warranted under the journal's publication ethics procedures.
- Taking other appropriate measures in accordance with the journal's policies and applicable publication ethics standards.
Responsibilities of Authors
Authors are responsible for ensuring the originality of their manuscripts, obtaining permission for copyrighted material where required, acknowledging all sources, and providing accurate references. Authors must disclose relevant prior publication or overlapping submissions and must not submit manuscripts that have been published elsewhere or are simultaneously under consideration by another journal, except where the journal's policies expressly permit otherwise.
Editorial Responsibility
The editorial team is responsible for handling allegations of plagiarism fairly and confidentially. All concerns should be evaluated carefully and consistently, giving authors an appropriate opportunity to respond when necessary. Decisions are made based on the available evidence, the seriousness of the issue, and the journal's applicable publication ethics policies.
